Copper Mug Buying Guide

Copper drinkware is all the rage right now, with the popularity of the Moscow Mule. This new mixology wave has elevated the drinking experience with a heightened sense of exquisite flavors, aromas, and perfected presentation.

Why copper?
The most scientific benefit of using copper drinkware is temperature. Copper is a great conductor, quickly taking on the icy temperature of the cocktail. The cold metal is highly effective at insulating the cold temperature keeping it cool even on the hottest of summer days.

Things to consider when purchasing copper drinkware:

Materials
Not all mugs are equal. The more copper, the better the conductor, keeping your drinks cooler. This also means the more copper the higher the price. Some retailers offer mixed metal options which will give you the same look, but at a more affordable price.

Construction
Handles on copper cups not only add an easier way of holding onto your drink. Handles help keep your hot hands off the body of the cup, making your drink stay cooler, longer.

Shape & Style
Really, it all depends on your style. There is a huge selection of copper drink ware available. Vintage, hammered and handmade to sleek, brushed and sophisticated there is a cup out there that will fit your style.

Here are some affordable and stylish copper options to add to your bar:

Dual-Purpose Décor: Stemless Wine Glasses

I love decorating. The discovery. The arranging. The organization. It’s like sculpting with objects. To me, one of the most enjoyable things about decorating is thinking outside the box. Taking an item and using it in an unconventional way. It’s exciting to find alternative purposes for things. So, I decided to start an ongoing blog series called “Dual-Purpose Décor” to share ideas on using décor outside the box.

This week’s dual-purpose décor item is a stemless wine glass. I picked up these beautiful ombré copper stemless wine glasses at TJMaxx. Keeping with this Fall’s trend, copper is huge right now! I thought these would be a great warm addition at my holiday table.

Well, how else can you use a stemless wine glass? I needed some quick and inexpensive table decorations for an anniversary dinner earlier this month. I didn’t want to order floral centerpieces. They were very expensive and for this small dinner, it seemed impractical. So, I decided to use those same stemless wine glasses as candle holders! I dropped some scentless candles contained in their own glass (to protect the wine glasses from the candle wax) and voilá! Instant table decor! They were perfect. Just the right size, inexpensive and looked very sophisticated. The best part, when the party was done, they can go back to being used for wine. Love it. So practical!

Recipe: Mulled Apple Cider

Making mulled apple cider is one of my favorite Fall traditions. A warm steaming cup of apple cider is always my companion while taking the kids out trick or treating on a chilly Wisconsin evening. It’s quick, it’s easy and it’s oh so delicious. Here is the recipe. I hope you try it and enjoy!

Mulled Apple Cider

2 quarts of apple cider

2 cinnamon sticks

2 whole cloves

2 whole all spice berries

1 orange thinly sliced

Place all the ingredients in a large saucepan and simmer on a low to medium heat for 10 minutes. Divide the cider among 8 mugs. Garish with orange slices, apple slices and cinnamon sticks.

If you need a little more warmth, add rum. Mix 1 cup of dark rum into the pot will simmering.

Drink up and Enjoy!

#FridayFavorite: Horoscope Mug

img_0347

My #FridayFavorite this week: A Horoscope Sign Coffee Mug. I picked up this sweet mug at my favorite store, Homegoods! (I think I could live there; the addiction is real!) What’s my sign? I’m a Taurus baby. A true Taurus. Persistent, dependable, patient, generous and loyal. I’m a bull at times, stubborn and set in my ways. I hate change unless I’m the one doing the changing. This mug is totally me and I’m ready to share it with the world!

Circling the lip of the mug are the sign attributes and a gold foiled astrological sign is hiding at the bottom of the mug. Homegoods seemed to have all of the signs available in a couple of different colors and at only $4.99, I’m sure they won’t be around for long! This was an easy #FridayFavorite pick. Now time to make a cup of tea, enjoy!
